  1. Bandwidth: The range of transmission frequencies that a network can use. The greater it is the greater the info that can travel over the network at one time.
  2. Blog: Website where users can post a chronological, up-to-date e-journal entry of their thoughts.
  3.  A Broken Link/Broken Graphic:  Link or hyperlink which no longer works when a web page loads, or when it is clicked on or does not take the user to the destination it was supposed to.
  4. Client: A remote computer connected to a host or server.
  5. Connect Time: The amount of time spend connected to an internet service.
  6. DNS Server: A database system that translates an IP Address from a numeric IP address into text.
  7. Download: To transfer a file from another computer to your computer.
  8. Host: Any computer that can function as the beginning and the end point of data transfers.

  1. Public Domain: Free and NOT copyrighted.
  2. Search Engine: Web site or program that acts as a card catalog for the internet. Matches keywords with web pages.
  3. Secured Site: https:// locked padlock are 2 ways to identify a secured site. Encryption software is used to protect user information.
  4. Shareware: Copyrighted- free for a limited time. Trial Basis- if you want to keep it you must pay for it.
  5. Freeware: FREE and Copyrighted.
  6. License Agreement: A legal contract defining the ways to use the software or program.
  7. Site: A place on the internet or www made up of web pages. These pages can contain graphics, text, audio, and video.
  8. Title Bar: Displays name of webpage and program used.
  9. URL:http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/ Uniform Resource Locator. http://- Protocol, www.cnn.com- Domain name, /WORLD/- Pathname/filename.
  10. World Wide Web: www, A network of networks. millions of computers linked together to share information.

Basic Internet Terms 4

1. Hyperlink: The text or graphics on a web site that can be clicked on with a mouse to take you to another web page or a different area of the same web page.

2. Hypermedia: The multimedia links on a web page that let you download graphics, sound clips, video files, or text documents.

3. Hypertext: Text on a web page that links to something else.

4. IP Address: A numeric address that is given to servers and users connected to the internet.

5. ISP: Internet Service Provider. A company that provides users access to the internet for a fee.

6. Keyword: On a search engine, it's the term or phrase you type in order to begin an online search.

7. Link: Text and/or graphics that connect you to another web page.

8. Navigation Bar: THe set of directional tools presented on a web site.

9. Protocol: Http:// The ability of the internet to let users view web pages regardless of what type of computer they have.
